Poor weather has brought travel disruption with flights and ferries facing cancellations or delays.

Sailings to and from Aberdeen are being held up, with tonight’s northbound sailing unlikely to leave on time.

The Hjaltland is scheduled to sail for Lerwick at 7pm tonight, but NorthLink warned she is not expected to leave Aberdeen until three hours later. That is likely to put her arrival here back to noon tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the southbound sailing of the Hrossey is also delayed. She was scheduled to leave Holmsgarth for Orkney at 5.30pm. However, the bad weather means she is now expected to leave Lerwick at 9pm, with no Kirkwall call.

An estimated time of arrival in Aberdeen has been put at “late morning” on Tuesday. But there is a potential for the sailing to be cancelled at short notice. An update is expected later.

Freight services are also disrupted, with the southbound Helliar sailing cancelled. The northbound sailing of the Hildasay, meanwhile, is under review.

Inter-island sailings have also been disrupted, while all inter-island flights were disrupted because of the weather. All today’s inter-island flights are cancelled.
